I am currently using an ASUS K55VD laptop as my main computer. At the time of purchase, it was running smoothly with 6GB of memory, so I was satisfied, but recently it has become slow for some reason. I have started to use a free software called Reduce Memory to compress the memory while operating it.

I started to think about adding more memory. I was not good with machines, so I never thought of disassembling a computer, but after watching YouTube, it seems that it is quite easy to add more memory. However, the problem is that the ASUS memory is 6GB. How many GB of memory does it come with? Also, I remember reading somewhere that it is desirable to have memory of the same capacity when stacking two cards. How many GB of memory should I buy?

I learned about a free software called PCView on YouTube, and by installing it, I was able to understand the memory configuration of the ASUS. It says that there are two 2GB and 4GB memory cards inserted. It is said that there are four slots, but for now, I have arranged for one 4GB memory card. If I remove the 2GB and put in another 4GB, it will be 8GB, so I can take a breather. It was less than 2,000 yen, so I ordered it.

I thought I'd install it when it arrived anyway, so I removed the back cover of the ASUS and looked inside, and a 4GB memory arrived from Amazon. There were two memory sticks, but I didn't know which was 4GB and which was 2GB. From the outside, the top one looked like it had less, so I removed it and inserted the new 4GB. The instructions said to push it to make the spring rise, but in fact it automatically springs up when you remove the clasp on the side. That's it. Temporarily fasten it and turn on the power button. It takes a long time for Windows to start up. This is probably the time it takes to reload the new part. I checked the memory and it was 8GB. Success! I was surprised at how easy it was. I tightened the screws again and finished.

The second time it started up, it was faster than before, and I realized that the difference of 2GB has an effect on things like this. I don't really see any changes in the addition of memory. There is no change in appearance at all... But even a margin of just 2GB or so affects all operations. What makes me happiest is that the weakness of Windows Media Player has improved, although not completely. I guess it was due to lack of memory that caused it to freeze repeatedly. This needs to be looked at in the long term, and if so, I'm really happy.
